Windows 7: Scan to smb standard user account

I know how to setup scan to smb.
I was having some issues setting it up with a standard user account...
I left it for the Network Person to figure out...
My thinking is that I would need an admin account on the pc for the scanning....
I am going to experiment with this tomorrow so I will update as I check it out...
please advize as to best approach...

throw me a link to any threads that you feel are related...

Create a unique account for the MFP with unique password--not to expire, make it an admin with read/write permissions for the scan folder, under Security Tab, Advanced on bottom right corner, go to Auditing and add the user to for full control of the Scan Folder.

Also be sure that if the computer has AVG (f#cking piece of annoying software!, BTW) make sure under Advanced section that you add the scan folder as an exception!

    Good Luck!

Re: Windows 7: Scan to smb standard user account

    Control Panel>Network & Internet>Network & Sharing Center>Advanced Sharing Settings
    Turn off password protected sharing
    Hope that helps !

Re: Windows 7: Scan to smb standard user account

ok... here is what I did...

Mind you this is in a test environment with the simplest peer to peer setup that I could find... windows 7 proffessional

I already have an admin account connected to a shared folder on computer A.
I then verified that my copier can scan to computer A.
I then scanned to computer A.
I then created a standard account on computer A.
I was able to access the shared folder on computer A.
I checked the settings in the shared folder with regards to the admin account.
I found that the folder was shared for the admin and had read and write access for everyone.

Situation where scanning to smb does not work after doing the above...
    =============================================
I spoke to a network person that has dealt with this situation and was told that in some networks...
not all admin accounts are created equal...
    some have full rights...
    some dont...
    local admin and global admin....

in those situations the rules in the previous posts on this thread apply and may just be the starting point

in others where the admin has full rights to everything then setting all users to have read/write access or specifying the user with read/write access should be enough... do this in the shared folder setup in windows 7 but in other cases... go the way of auditing...

Re: Windows 7: Scan to smb standard user account

I have a FS-C8520MFP having a simular problem. Found out last night if I turn off Norton 360 ( 15 minuite ) the scanner works fine. When the 15 minute time out expires of course it no longer scans. I don't know how to get around norton 360 and haven't found a way out of this yet. and of course its running on "Windows 7"
    Thanks

Somwhere in the norton firewall setting you have to allow network traffic. I don't remember exactly what it is called because I am not currently on an PC with norton but i have ran into that before and this solved it.

The first issue is Norton 360: it's an overly invasive suite that seems to get turned off by any virus it comes in contact with. You'll need to change the firewall settings to tell it that the network that the MFP is in is a trusted network which will lower some of the settings and allow SMB to work.

This page should help: About Norton Firewall protection settings | Symantec

Long term, the solution is generally to advise customers to steer clear of bundled firewalls and the like: so long as they are in a NAT network their routers and network level firewalls, paired with the built in Windows firewall in 7 and higher, should give them all the protection they need.
