Dirty machine... (KM-2650)

I understand that I purchased this machine at a reasonable price, and that the copy quality is very good.

Maybe I am a bit of a nut but I don't understand how it can accumulate so much dirt on the covers, and so much dirt inside certain areas.

Too dirty for a public Library, yet not quite dirty enough for a Auto-Mechanic's shop?

There were other upper portions of the machine that were this dirty, not just with dust but a lot of dirty hands over the years. Mild soap and water wouldn't cut it. Lysol household cleaner mixed 50/50 (water) in a spray bottle wouldn't clean some of it off either.

No spraying was done to plastic parts on the machine, they were removed sprayed on both sides, wet rag wiped or light scrubbed with a soft plastic bristle brush if necessary, rinsed and allowed to dry.

It may seem obsessive to others, but I want to be initially nice to look at it when it enters my home office.

Try Zep fast505.

A certain amount of yellowing due to releasing of the resins in the plastic is unavoidable, especially if left in direct sunlight. If it is yellowing, it's all the way through the cover, not something that you can scrub off.

If it really bothers you, you could buy $1K worth of replacement covers (assuming that they're available).

The Yellowing I can live with. At first wasn't my Ricoh 5510L wasn't either but after several years it too is yellowed some areas. Never in the sun, only a hot house during the summer time.

There is some sort of recipe supposedly which was discussed among the Jukebox restorers which is supposed to remove the yellowing of plastics. Consists of Hydrogen Peroxide, Oxy Clean and a few other ingredients. Seems like it might make the plastics disintegrate all together. It also seemed like too much work/risk.

I looked up use and disposal and the Data Safety Sheet explains it's waste cannot be disposed of down the sewer drain...

Again, the yellowing is not that bad. I don't plan on experimenting with this stuff. It was only shared for reference.
