    Ricoh Aficio 2090 HDD installation

    dear all,
we have a Ricoh Aficio 2090 that has no HDDs installed in them, hence, document server and many features like duplex and edit are not accessible. I tried to use normal HDDs (2 x 40GB) by formatting them, but formatting HDDs says failed & none of the said problem is solved. please guide me if i am missing something or doing the wrong way. any help is appreciated.

    thanX in advance

Just a guess, if you haven't tried this already you might try formatting the HDDs on a computer. I always use a "FAT" compatible format for that, and I've never used the "quick" format as I think it could miss too many errors.
Sorry if that was a waste of time.
One other thing, you might try posting this question here:

Most of the of Ricoh techs can be found there.

my friend you have been spot on. sorry i didn't post the solution earlier. in this model you have 02 hdds of 40gb volume each. what you have to do is format them clean by using any desktop pc. two things you need to take care of

    1. firstly you need to have identical hdds (i.e., same brand same model, same firmare)
    2. secondly you need to put jumper on both hdds as master.

and you are good to go.

reference to #1 i used hdds from western digital one of them was WD400 and the other one WD400BB, and it didn't work.
reference to #2 did that by mistake (wrong jumper settings), it will not work.

    hope that elaborates the fix.
thanx again for your reply, i really appriciate that.

the machine use mirror raid. If one HHD crashed and does not start up i used to change only the cables between them and then the messed up HHD would recover from the mirror. So if all else fail borrow a HHD from another machine and clone.
