Riso RIP SC7950 - Backing up the HD

Is it straightforward to backup the HDD of the Riso SC7950. I bought one recently, and the supplier sells back up HDDs at a pretty high price. I figure I can do it myself with the right advice on what HDD to buy and some idea on how to match the serial numbers.

Any thoughts or ideas on what I should do?

    Hi!!

    Did you find a solution?
I want to try cloning and browsing the HDD via ubuntu to see if I can locate the file where you have to write the serial, but didn't try yet...

No I didn't but someone in Austria clones the drives for a couple hundred euros. I might do that just to have a backup.
