if this was an easy thing to do then everybody would be doing it! But it isn't and they are not!!

Not sure about the "Region 3" error, but P17 is that the solenoid counter isn't connected. I'd be kind of suspicious of that one. The counter could just be unplugged, though.

Did it have a Hecon on it at one point?
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

I think it had a counter but they are about 2hrs from here and we were looking at buying them..... so what has to be done to make these machines normal again?

Released in 2004 so kick the tires and see what falls out. What are the copy/master counts and what type of environments did they come out of? Like buying a used car, you never know what you're going to get.

My own feeling exactly...we all here agree...

    Re: Riso errors

There were changes made to the 390/590 drums to stop them from flicking ink out the front top. That's probably the only major problem as long as TPH doesn't have lines and all the other regular maintenance parts. But once again you have to see these things to know if they are shot and listen to it run.
    Good luck
