Unresponsive screen and unmatched size MZ 770 Riso

    Hello all,

I recently bought a MZ 770E, it has pc connectivity although the touch screen is unresponsive. I thought this wouldn't be a huge problem because of the pc connectivity, however when I try to send A3 documents it comes up with a error message saying; " !! Unmatched Size -- Current page and printing paper !! Check paper size "

It seems that it's detecting that the paper is A4 when in fact its A3. So when sending an A3 file it will only make a master of A4 because of the paper detection, I think. I'm really stuck and hope its a simple reset for the machine? I have a feeling that the machine is set to accept A4 instead of A3, I can see the paper settings on the touch screen saying A4 but obviously can't touch it to change.

I really hope someone out there can help, I'm at a dead end and some advice... Anything I'll try!!

    Adam

Make sure the guides on the paper tray are set correctly, and that the length sensors on the tray are clean and are seated correctly.
Then try resetting the machine by holding down the reset key while turning the machine on. (Only do that once, though.)

What happens if you do it more than once?

For resetting the machine, usually nothing. If resetting the machine is going to fix the problem it will do so the first time you try it.
Sometimes though, resetting the machine more than once for the same problem can cause the problem to get worse.
So only try resetting the machine once.
I really didn't mean the "Only do that once, though." to apply to adjusting the guides on the paper tray or checking the length sensor. Sorry about that.

Hi, I've cleaned the sensors and made sure everything is set up properly. Then I reset it, still no joy.

Is there anything else I can do?

Would replacing the back sensor help? I am assuming that the back sensor is the one that detects if it is A3?

          Thanks

It wouldn't hurt to focus on the back sensor, as that does look like the main culprit. I've seen that sensor get knocked out of position a few times on older machines, so check that first before you replace it.

Hi, I have replaced the sensor with another from a working MZ 770, but it is still no good. So obviously it isn't the sensor.

              Any other Ideas?

It is possible that automatic paper size detection is turned off, and set to A4 size. And since the touch screen is broken you might be out of luck.
Easy test, put A4 in paper feed and send an A4 print job.
                Good luck.

Thanks very much for all your help!

Problem was with the settings on the machine not the sensor. I swapped around the screen/keyboard unit with a working one from another MZ, reset the paper selection to auto then swapped it back. This was so much easier than taking out all those screws on the feed tray!!
