Imaging Industry Information: More details on the new alliance between Canon and Hewlett Packard

Has anyone else heard of this? Apparently, it was announced in September but according to this blog post, HP's website was supposed to be offering Canon copiers starting 11/1. I looked today and haven't seen any.

Here are the highlights of the news as posted on the website I linked to above:

- HP will begin advertising Canon copiers on its website on 11/1/09
- HP will resell imageRUNNER, imageRUNNER ADVANCE, and imageRUNNER ADVANCE PRO series
- Speed range from 23ppm to 105ppm devices
- According to Larry Trevarthen, HP’s Worldwide Director of Market Development, HP also has access to the imagePRESS production print products
- All the devices will initially carry the Canon name
- The products will be identical to what Canon dealers sell, including supplies
- Service will be provided by a Canon factory direct branch primarily. Only if there is no Canon branch in the area, will the service contract be offered to a Canon dealer.
- Canon currently has 60 factory branch locations, but will expand to 90 locations within 2 years
- HP will support Canon copiers with its Web JetAdmin utility
- HP will also modify its Universal Print Driver to support Canon copiers
- Starting in early 2010, HP will begin to develop its own print controllers for the Canon copiers

I was looking for a black and white copier that I remember from 10 years time ago. Basically it was for larger runs and made an impression on carbon paper and then ran through a few hundred at a time? I do not recall if it was toner based or not.

It was not an offset copier I believe.

I have been using an excel workbook for the last 5 years to keep track of meters and uses. I have a workbook with a sheet for each machine. This is getting to be a pain though, and wonder if anyone has successfully used another method without having to pay 500-1000 dollars for dealer software, because I really only need to track monthly meters and usage. I tried to make an Access database at one time fut couldn't figure it out at the time. Any suggestions? maybe someone uses excel and has a better method......

A current customer just called me wanting to know what would handle the job he is about to take on: He is going to start printing statements for banks. He says it could easily get to 2 million pages per month. He wants to spread it over 3 or 4 machines of the same model. He would rather not buy new. What on earth would handle this sort of thing. Most of my customers are 2k-35k per month. That would be 500k on each of 4 machines per month. Geez. which would be about 24k per day per machine. I don't think I could support that but told him I would look into it. Sounds like a major headache. Ir105? That is still 6 mil per machine per year. If it gets to that. Thanks!

Hey all,

I'm just curious if anyone is charging for IT work out there. We want to and I'm looking into getting a program setup for it but am struggling a bit. Does anyone have a IT service agreement that they use in relation to the copiers?

I'm talking about connectivity issues that revolve around the copiers such as the customer was printing just fine until they changed their router. This should be a chargeable call. Or scan to email was working just fine but now it's not and maybe they changed ISP's or someone changed a password for the email account used to setup scan to email. Again, should be chargeable.

I'm wondering if anyone is doing this currently and what kind of verbiage do you have in place for a contract as well as for those who answer the phones so they can let the customer know that it may be chargeable based on XXYY criteria?

Please help.
