HP Laser Jet M880 fuser error

    Gentlemen,
May I first apologize for not being able to speak a word of HP?
I normally stay well over on the Ricoh side of the fence, but due to a salesman promising the world without checking that the service department could actually deliver I have a very dead HP in my workshop.

It appears to have a 240 volt short circuit problem as in the field it was tripping the office circuit breaker and blew the 15 amp fuse on the PSU. I've obtained a second hand fuser and now the copier just sits there and says 50.4F.00 but at least its not blowing fuses.

Can someone enlighten me what a 50.4F.00 code means and point me in the right direction to solve it?

The fuser is powered by the power supply, so if you have any confidence in your borrowed fuser, I would replace the power supply. The blown fuse may just be the most obvious flaw. I'd offer you a number, but you won't need a 120vac power supply. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks BC, are they like Ricohs and you have to reset a SP mode to clear a fuser code?

Some of the HP's you just have to turn the machine off an then back on to reset the fuser code.

Who ever designed the panels for this clunker should have his genitals removed with an angle grinder!!! Why do you have to remove the bridge unit to do something as simple as take the back panel off?

I believe every design engineer for every copier company has had his wife run off with a field tech, and things like this are part of their sick twisted revenge.

That was my fault, I should know better by now. All I'm going to get now is whinges about copier designs and all I really wanted was a technical explanation of what caused a 50.4F.00 code.

No System Error Reset (like Konica Minolta). No U906 Partial Reset (like Kyocera). No Function > Error > Reset (like Canon). No sim U14/U15/U16 (like Sharp).

Just power Off/On, and if you resolved the problem it will go away. =^..^=
