    Designjet 770

carriage belt fine and encoder strip fine.

Problem is the carriage unit is no longer attached to carriage belt. I found small pieces of broken plastic in the machine.

My question is does the piece that holds carriage to belt come with the belt???? or is it part of the carriage.

    Thank you

It is part of the carriage. Start taking it apart. Also, I have never heard of the carriage breaking like that. Look for a cause.

Customer reported bad paper jam before this error.....I found several small pieces of plastic in bottom of machine.

I suppose it's possible they have just knocked belt out of holder?

    Thanks for info

Those pieces are most likely the belt grips if it is completely loose. Plan on replacing the carriage. You have to go through the same process either way to disassemble. If you have never taken one of these apart, take the manual with you. I think complete belt change covers 120 or more pages.

It’s part of the carriage assembly. I have to replace onebefore.

The belt holding plastic is kind of weak on this machine. I had to replace one because of this too. Cust had a problem and tried to force the carriage to move while the machine was on. The machine tries to hold the carriage still while the cust tries to move it.
