    4250 fuser/swing plate not engaging

We are replacing swing plates on several machines and installing rebuilt fusers. Never had an issue.

Now we have a batch where the fuser does not mesh with the swing gear. With the formatter removed, you can see through an access hole, that as you push the fuser in, the swing gear moves up. What I believe is happening is something on the fuser, maybe the gear, is hitting the metal frame around the gear, pushing the frame and gear up. Make sense? If you push the fuser all the way to the formatter side and pop it in, it will engage. But even then, sometimes it will loose engagement.

New aftermarket swing plate (not just gear)
    Rebuilt fuser with new gears
Fuser clips are good or new
    Power supplies are installed correctly

This happened on around 20 printers with 20 fusers

All I can think of is something with the swing plate. We are ordering more OEM and AM from a different vendor

    Anyone seen this?

It could be that you are not installing the swing plate assy correctly.
You must pull up on the lever that is normally attached to the top front door, before installing the swing plate assy
Then it will allow the swing plate gear to move up and down as the door opens and closes.

My bet would be on the incorrect installation of the swingplate assy.

Unless, maybe you just put the wrong gears on the fuser.

Re: 4250 fuser/swing plate not engaging

On one or two occasions I've not been able to fit the fuser after changing the swing plate. Each time it was my own fault. To fix it, all I did was disassemble it again, and refit the parts. It's fairly easy to get the swing plate in there wrong. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: 4250 fuser/swing plate not engaging

Well we will experiment and post the results. FYI I have replaced 500+ swing plates. And my fuser builder has rebuilt thousands of these fusers. Never seen this before. We suspect a gear or swing plate issue. Maybe pressure roller as the gear sits on that shaft.

    Some part is defective.

As far as spacer, we replaced the whole ass so there would be no need to touch the spacer. Unless the gear ass was assembled wrong and I have not looked at that..... yet.

    Thanks

The swing plate gear is supposed to move up when you install the fuser, that's why it is called a swing plate assembly. Try putting in the old fuser and see if it works. Most remanufactured fusers are pretty much junk.

Lol yes I know the gear is supposed to move up but it should have the fuser gear touching it......

seen this a few times and it was due to aftermarket swing plates made of flimsy metal that gets bent when you install it, especially if its one that fights you going in.
(you know what I mean ) Do as Black Cat suggested and re install

Its like riding a bike, once you have done a couple, its easy pickings, , something amiss in the installation. Hard to install incorrectly and insert the 3 screws. Something sounds to be bent. Good Luck and let us know your outcome.
