LJ 4240 error code 49.C402 and 4300 print not fusing

Two 4240's in same department throwing this code. Will be printing a large job and maybe half way through it stops and throws code 49.4C02. Turn off and on and will print whole job again. Throws the code several times a day. The service manual wasn't much help, had code as 49.xxxx nothing in detail about "4C02".

A different machine, HP 4300 print rubs off when running envelopes and letterhead. Both are a little rough texture but nothing real unusual. All settings look right. I messed with some of the settings trying to slow down the env & lett head, increase fuser temp, etc. Installed Genuine HP maint kit with new fuser and still smear print when rubbed.

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks in advance

Repetitive 49 error codes are your network card. Common to go on these. Replace it with an HP JetDirect 930 card. It will continue to happen and finally it will just happen every print job. Simple 10 min fix. Unscrew, remove, install, screw, turn on, set IP address, confirm and your done.

Now the 4300 with fusing issues can be generic toner, transfer roller or power supply. If you have changed settings and they did not work, I would recommend a Cold Reset to default all settings. Also check the media reference guide on HP website to see if that particular GSM rating, type of envelope is supported by the machine.

    Hope this helps

Your 49 might be fixed by a jetdirect card, and then a formatter. But if they're both in the same department, you might also be looking at the print drivers on the server. Actually, that's where I'd start. Reinstall the drivers, give the printers new network cables (or, at least, make sure they're not real old and mangled), then the network card, then the formatter.

Generic toner can cause those smears.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try that for the 49 code.

    They are using Aftermarket toners.

Re: LJ 4240 error code 49.C402 and 4300 print not fusing

Wrong print drivers and/or corrupt print jobs can cause 49.4C02 codes. On the couple of occasions that I could document the phenomenon, the source of the documents was a web page that linked to potential employee resume's. Certain links consistently pulled 49.4C02 codes when printed. Especially affecting two separate machines on the same network.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yes, printing web pages is a big source of these errors. If you unplug the NIC Cable and the printer works fine then Its a print job that the Printer doesn't like/Understand. Communication problem. It is very unlikely that the Jet direct card is the problem. Always upgrade the firmware...this model had many firmware updates for 49.xxxx problems. When your 49.xxxx error pops up check out "See Whats Printing" this way you can tell what job is causing the problem.

Updating the firmware can resolve a lot of 49 errors. Also on the 4300 is the toner genuine?

Re: LJ 4240 error code 49.C402 and 4300 print not fusing

I'd try a lot of things before replacing both network cards. If both machines are throwing the same error on the same docs I'd be looking at the firmware and print driver first.

The firmware is available on HP's website.

HP has a lot of print driver options so, trying a few different ones may resolve the issue. Once your driver is installed make sure to run the device settings auto configuration in the printer properties of the device. If it errors out do it manually. Make sure to set the ram to the correct amount.

Try installing a pcl 5, pcl 6 and postscript driver on a computer and then experiment printing a troublesome page or pdf with each driver. Make sure when you install it to do it manually, using the actual IP as the printer port.

Good Luck. If all the fails Try a 920 or 930 jet direct card and see if that resolves your issue.
