Introduction
This document provides information regarding changes HP implemented to estimate the life of a maintenance kit and suggestions of how to determine the estimated life of the maintenance kit.
Customers who have historically viewed the Maintenance Kit Interval and the Pages Since Last Maintenance information to calculate the estimated life of the maintenance kit should now view the Supplies Status Page to estimate the life of the maintenance kit. HP LaserJet Enterprise printers using firmware version 3.4 or newer will no longer list the Maintenance Kit Interval information in the Configuration Page. HP implemented this change because the number of Engine Cycles of a maintenance kit in these printers more accurately reflects the available usage of the maintenance kit.
This change does not apply to HP LaserJet Enterprise Color printers.
Changes to estimate the life of the maintenance kit
For an HP LaserJet Enterprise printer, the pre-printing and post-printing routine requires the Engine Cycles of a printer’s rollers and fuser to keep the paper path clear. As a result, when the printer’s average print jobs are four pages or less, the number of Engine Cycles required could be greater than the printed pages. This would trigger the control panel of the printer to display a “Maintenance Kit very low” message earlier than the expected pages stated for the maintenance kit.
If customers print more than four pages with a Letter or A4 size paper, the expected estimated life of the maintenance kit will be as stated in the HP long-life consumables Data sheet .
Thus, HP decided to change the measurement of the maintenance kit life estimates to be based on Engine Cycles instead of pages to more accurately reflect and communicate the life of the supply messages on the printer’s control panel.
Obtain the status of the maintenance kit
To view the status of the maintenance kit gauge, print a Supplies Status Page from the printer’s control panel.
Depending on your printer’s control panel, follow these steps to print the Supplies Status Page:
LCD control panel
Touchscreen control panel
Affected Printers
The removal of the Maintenance Kit Interval information in the Configuration Page applies to the following printers:
Background
A maintenance kit for a LaserJet printer includes paper pickup rollers, paper feed/separation rollers, a transfer roller, and a fuser assembly. When the printer reaches the maximum Engine cycles, the maintenance kit should be replaced to maintain printer reliability and print quality.
