    Designjet 500 error 79:04

I know the manual says this code is a firmware issue but I couldn't find the firmware on HP.com. On internet I found several "free" downloads "if" you agree to download their toolbar, etc. Forget that!

Machine was working fine all along with no changes that would have caused this. They have another DJ500 and that is working fine. Both have the 635 jetdirect cards and on same network. If you unplug network cable you are able to get into menus.

Is there somewhere to get the utility & F/W. Or any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

It sounds like something on the network is causing the machine to give the code. You could try changeing the IP address to see if that helps. In cases like this I run wireshark. The network traffic does not nessicerssly need to be pointed to the printers IP.

Updating the firmware isn't a solution. From what you described, you have a bad NIC. Try swapping NICs between printers and see if the problem follows the NIC. They are notorious for failing. I buy them by the dozen off ebay.

I was thinking that but I thought the 635 cards were the latest jetdirects and didn't suspect it at first. I will swap from one machine to the other and see what happens. Will report back.

    Thanks

    Really???

My experience with JD cards stopped at the 620's. I know the 615's are bad news.
I always compare a 79:04 with a 49 on HP laser printers. Bad/corrupted print job. Firmware may or may not make a difference.

I think Kiran is assuming a bad print job has already been eliminated as a choice.

    Re: Designjet 500 error 79:04

Hi HP experts , I’m getting this error on a 500ps, printer starts up and then comes up with 79:04 firmware error, initially the printer came in for a 02:10 error, when I pulled it apart i noticed that the trailing cables had been damaged , once we replaced cables that’s when the 79:04 error appeared , I managed to update firmware by entering service menu but still error persists, any help appreciated
