    hp dj T790

If I attach the cutter to this machine, it goes to the left side after a good print and tries to cut the paper--- travels about 5-6 inches from the left side the carrier stops and shows an 86.10 paper jam,(this is also happening with a new cutter assembly) if I remove the cutter the machine shows no problem.the machine prints and the customer has to manually cut the paper. I was thinking the rear bushing is probably gone and the carrier is dragging in the front -----Looking for any other ideas------ machine is 2-3 years old and hardly gets used

Have you cleaned and oiled the rail?

If the rail was dirty and causing a lot of resistance, then the added cutter resistance could be the straw that breaks the back and finally throws up the error.

Wow, I had this EXACT problem recently. I thought it was something to do with the belt so I started to replace it. When I removed the carriage, I realized the belt wasn't even attached to it! The carriage was broken where the two posts that hold the belt to the carriage were. How it worked at all... I don't know. I think this is a result of the end user trying to force the carriage to move, either during a jam or some other time.

When I showed it to HP, they said yup! They'd seen that before.

So maybe this is your problem.

Also, note the correct position for the belt as it threads in the carriage.

I had one break there... but it wasn't moving at all. And I'm pretty sure it broke because the user was trying to force the carriage to move.

I wonder if there's a way to repair those with some kind of clamp. The next time I run across this, I think I'll try. The problem is that aside from keeping the belt clamped down, those two posts also affect belt size because they make a little curve in the belt.
