    HP P3010 fuser issues

    HP P3010 laser printer - I replaced the fuser unit with OEM fuser and customer complains of insufficient fusing with bond paper and envelopes. Have replaced the fuser 2 times and withing 2-3 weeks they get the same results of smudging with poor fusing of toner on anything besides plain paper. They are using the same bond paper and envelope stock they have always used. Original fuser unit which had been in the printer for several years never exhibited this problem, however it just was worn out (teflon sleeve worn through) so had to be replaced. I have installed 2 brand new OEM (HP) fuser units and get the same poor fusing results. Any body seen this problem?

    Some of the newer fusers open the rollers when the machine stops and some opened the rollers when the back door opens, look to see if theres some reason the fuser is losing pressure. if it does have the ability to release the pressure some way. something may be making that happen during operation GOOD LUCK

    First of all, make double sure that the paper type is set correctly. If it's feeding through envelopes at the same speed as plain paper, then it's not going to fuse.

    But aside from that, if you're using OEM, then there's not much more you can do. It has to be the stock.

    It's possible HP changed their fusers, but there's nothing that can be done about it. You could TRY a rebuild. Maybe some of the aftermarket heating elements actually get hotter than HP's. But in the end, I think you're going to have to point to the stock.

    BTW - people often claim they did not change paper... but how would they know? Paper manufactures change techniques and formulas without notifying customers. What's more, if they're getting pre-printed material, then they have even less control over it... and virtually zero knowledge of it. How would they know if the guy who prints their envelopes didn't change paper types? Or if he changed his process, leaving some kind of chemical residue on the paper?

    Obviously something changed not just the fuser. Make sure the client did not change toner brand (if they were using aftermarket). Make sure the unit is plugged DIRECTLY into a wall socket, no power strip or surge protector. Make sure there is no "power hog" (big copier, shredder, refrigerator, etc.) plugged in nearby. Make sure the firmware is up to date. Make sure the paper type being printed is the same as the printer thinks it's printing (the machine adjusts speed and temperature based on paper type). Make sure the paper type being called for is set in fuser modes to emulate itself and not a lighter paper type. Ask the client if they got a new batch of media from their supplier... this happens quite often and causes this problem.

    If all of these do not solve the problem change the fuser mode to a thicker paper type to increase the temperature. You can try replacing the ECU or switching from Reman to OEM toner.

    Metro is right. The very first thing you should check on is the toner. Get them on an OEM crtg and see if the problem continues.
