    Re: Designjet 800 service station

That's a step motor... so one bad connection would cause it to jiggle without ever moving forward. My guess would be the board that it plugs into, behind the control panel. The interconnect PCA.

Although, I once pinched that interconnect cable when I had removed the EMOD... I remember that it's easy to do. But that's a big old thick cable, so you'd have to pinch it pretty good to actually cut the wire.

before doing all the cable stuff and emod .. I would look at that motor... it's always ( IMHO ) the $3 part that is the cause .

That's my thought also. I once had a Lexmark ADF that was bad. It was producing a very similar noise to what this is making. I removed the motor and found it WAS the problem.

Definitely will. Waiting on the interconnect board. Must be drop-shipping from HP in California.

Okay. Finally got the board and installed. As expected, same issue. I removed the motor from the service station and recorded what it does. I'm just having a hard time believing this is an electrical issue. It looks like bad motors to me. I've uploaded the video I took of the motor sitting on top of the plotter (Stuttering Motor.mp4).

I ordered a motor from eBay.

Where'd you find a part # for that?

Got it off of the motor itself.

    Re: Designjet 800 service station

Okay. I'm convinced it's not anything to do with the service station. I installed the motor I got and it does exactly the same thing. I'm hesitant on dumping over $200 for a new EMOD (from HP) if I'm not positive that's what the problem is. I've now got two service stations and the ICB to send back for credit (minus any restocks). The plotter isn't used all that much and they've got a 5500 (or 5000 - can't remember) just down the hall.

As Kiran suggested, might want to hit that cable first. I think it's the thick one that goes from the emod to the interconnect board.
