HP FutureSmart Products - How to Enable and Disable Foreign Interface Harness (FIH) port
IntroductionThis document describes how to Enable and Disable the Foreign Interface Harness (FIH) Port on HP FutureSmart devices.
InstructionsIn order to Enable and Disable the Foreign Interface Harness (FIH) port it is necessary to send down one of the following files to the device.
Supported methods of Sending file to the FutureSmart device: note:
Methods of uploading the file to the device may Depend upon the security level and ports that have been locked down on your device.
note:
The “Print” path within the Embedded Web Server (EWS) General Tab is not supported.
One at a time, open the following files by clicking on the links, then copy the PJL code into Notepad. Save the files with the filenames listed below.
Enables the FIH FIHON_2.txt
Disables the FIH FIHOFF_2.txt
Below are examples of the Notepad files with the copied/pasted PJL code correctly formatted.

One file enables the FIH and the other disables it. After saving the .TXT files please use one of the following methods for sending the Enable or Disable file to the FutureSmart device.
- File transfer using Port 9100
- FTP through a browser (Folder View) – Drag and drop file.
- FTP Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) – Drag and drop file.
- FTP Command line prompt.
- Windows System command line – copy to shared printer
After sending the file to the FutureSmart device the printer will print a single blank page.
If the FIH port is enabled you will see the following screen if you press the COPY button as shown in the Figure below.
If this Attention screen is not visible after pressing COPY then the FIH port is still Disabled.
