    Re: T1200 MFP printer/scanner question

Actually--rereading this, why didn't they start with the encoder wheel and encoder sensor? Unless new ones come with the transmission.

yeah not totally familiar with this HP line... but the Epsons I work on, if it isn't the head... more likely paper motor or just a calibration issue. out of the 10 calls I have had MOST times it just needed to be calibrated.

ALSO banding can appear due to the QUALITY setting and media used. a 'DRAFT' setting is usually the problem if it isn't in HIGH QUALITY setting.

Sorry to be late to the game here. Let me ask my contact at HP about the skipping. I don't think it has anyting to do with the carriage. I'll post back when I get some info.

Yes, they said they did both of those. Tempted to do them again, just in case. I trust these guys but am surprised they can't nail down the issue.

    Re: T1200 MFP printer/scanner question

OK so 3.5" is about the circumference of the main roller, so it's looking like a problem with the roller encoder disc or sensor. Also eliminate the spindle from causing a problem; roll a few feet off of it so the paper can be pulled freely and see if it still happens.

Btw, there's no way the encoder strip or carriage can cause this problem. Might want to reconsider who you got working on your printer.

    Kiran

PS - If they put the same encoder disc and sensor back after replacing the motor.. that's likely your problem. Plus i hope they had the correct tool for reinstalling the motor! You don't just slap it in there and tighten the screws.

I only mention the printheads, because you have to print out the paper advance calibration sheet, and I would assume that bad printheads could possibly create a problem with the paper advance calibration. But as Kiran said, this is very unlikely to have anything to do with the carriage. Kiran--does a transmission include the encoder wheel and sensor, do you know?

    Re: T1200 MFP printer/scanner question

This is REALLY helpful guys! Much appreciated.

I took a couple pictures of both the scanner name plate and the printer also, just to make sure I get the model numbers correct. Kiran, is there a place I can search for the a list like what you posted for the CQ654A? Ours is a CQ653A. I'm happy to do the searching if you can direct me to where the info is found.

I think I'll try doing the calibration myself and see what comes up.

I'm afraid I used the term "banding" when I meant skipping; like the paper isn't advancing correctly. I've tried it using just a single sheet feed to eliminate the roll as an issue and got the same result with the skipping. So this tells me the roll feeding isn't an issue and it's still in the roller itself or whatever drives it.

Picture of the media transmission that was replaced and the specialty tool they charged us for. The tool came in the same box as the transmission. Also picture of the box they both came in together.

The old transmission turns very smoothly and no skipping or gnashing of teeth.
