Re: HPDJ Z3200ps photo printer with Error code 79:04 44" model
Be careful when reinstalling it to not over tighten the screws, you can damage the sensor. Personally I'd leave it alone. You can pull the carriage out from the service station and pull the shutter open to ensure it isn't stuck, and close it again. What you described about a lot of lint there is typical, especially if they're using media with a high rag content. But that shutter keeps it from fouling the actual sensor. If I was going to clean it I would pull the carriage and not just the sensor.. and get at the entire underside of the carriage. Plus then you can open the shutter and inspect the actual sensor.. to make sure nothing is blocking it.
And a note about removing the carriage; you don't have to disconnect the trailing cable at the carriage or remove the tube assembly. Remove the two T-10 screws that secure the trailing cable at the middle of the printer, and you can pull the carriage out with the cables and tubes attached.. flip it over and clean it. Saves a lot of time and the wear and tear on the end of the trailing cable.

Thanks for the tips. I'm here now and the customer just printed a nice poster and the shutter never opened. I assume the spring on the right side is to close
the shutter? It also looks like it could open it too.

No.... the shutter only opens when the printer is doing a color calibration, or you run the test on the sensor.

I ran the calibration for the sensor and it passed and the shutter never opened either. When is it suppose to open?
I got the carriage out enough to access the shutter and it pulls out fairly easy. I did not feel any sticky-ness.

I don't know about the calibration (I assume it would be opened) but it must open when you do a color calibration or run the test on the color sensor.

Well, I got the carriage out and looked at the bottom and it seemed clean to me. The sensor also seemed clean behind the shutter.
nothing unusual. Then the center piece for the tensioner pully broke. I'm off to get a part.

Don't you hate that? I've had two break on me.. one when I wasn't doing anything involving the belt or carriage. The only way to get the tensioner is to order the belt from HP. CH538-67018 Fortunately it's one of the belts that includes the tensioner. Some don't.

Re: HPDJ Z3200ps photo printer with Error code 79:04 44" model
Kiran,
I got the thing fixed. I'll bet they thought they had the tensioner Murphy proofed, but I showed them wrong.
Precision roller does carry just the tensioner for around $20 or so I forget. I'm just happy to have that off my plate.
When I put the carriage back in and was setting the tension, I noticed that I had re-assembled the tensioner incorrectly.
Then I broke the upper bushing on the carriage, but I had one of those on hand.
After I put it back together everything worked. And I did see it pull out the shutter and close it.
I'm guessing it put just enough of a bind to throw it off. It was that or re-connecting the trailing cable. But I had re-seated
that cable earlier.
At any rate it is fixed and the customer is happy to have their machine back to 100%.
And I'm glad too.
Thanks very much for your suggestion to pull the carriage back out. I was getting tunnel vision on this one.
