    Designjet 510, broken latch

Customer broke again the latch and also the ink tube cover for the 2nd time within 6 months. I replaced last December both the complete Ink Tube system including cover and also the purple latch with original HP parts.

Question: What could be the reason other than customer induced damage caused by bare stupidity? Got replacement for the broken parts thru eBay but would like to know what's behind it that those parts became damaged again so soon.

I've only seen one latch broken, and it was not one of my smarter endusers. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    Re: Designjet 510, broken latch

If they leave that purple latch out (unlatched) and close the cover, the carriage bangs it into the arch on the right and then shows an error that the carriage latch is open. I think this is what breaks the latch, but it's just a guess.

The printer will work without the latch or the top of the carriage latched down.

seeing how this is the 2nd latch/tube set, clearly the end user is not performing replacement correctly..

Agree with Kiran ... I would not warranty/call back on this.. this should be a CHARGE call...

review the procedure AGAIN with them....

    Thanks guys.

Another question came up. The purple hub of the paper roll spindle is cracked. Can this be purchased separately? # please?

HP only supplies that part as part of the entire spindle assembly. 24" is C7770-60094 the 42" is C7770-60005. LPS has them for $66 and $80, respectively.

Or you can usually find just the blue collet on ebay.

    Re: Designjet 510, broken latch

Don't want to open a new thread since its the same machine and customer:

A few days ago I've replaced the above mentioned latch/ink tube cover. The customer informed me during that occasion that the machine sometimes makes magenta colored blobs on the paper. Pictures attached.

There seems to have happened a spill of ink where the ink tubes enters the printhead. Since the machine was operating well for the moment I didn't want to inspect the cause or do anything cause the customer is heavily depending 24/7 on this printer. Could it be such an easy thing that the ink tube slipped from the nipple or may I expect that the recently replaced ink tube assembly got damaged by the previous broken latch issue?

    Thanks

The tube assembly is broken and should be replaced. This is also the only way to correctly repair the carriage cover latch.

My guess is that in the process of installing, you accidentally fractured the barb where the tubes join the carriage. It's easy to do.

If you still have the other ink tube assy maybe you can cobble something together from the collection of parts. =^..^=

Definitely NOT!! (Cat, you are the only one I would allow such a remark about me, but you're wrong this time. lol )

This happened long time after I installed the ink tube assembly and before I installed the ink tube cover. In the mean time however, the notorious nervous customer managed to break the latch and the ink tube cover.
