Left hand side of the page is blank, I replaced a defective Carousel and the Carousel Drive Unit, cleaned the laser, timed the Carousel gears and just about anything else I could think of. Still have the same problem, the Carousel does not make the same loud noises it was before I started but every once in a while it over rides home position. The machine has generic cartridges in it and a generic drum, which I changed with another new generic drum the customer gave me, still n/g. Any suggestions other than throwing it out would be appreciated. I am doing this as a favor for my IT guy, and he absolutely refuses to believe that the recharged cartridges could be at fault. Thanks

I know you've probably done some of these steps, check and make sure you didnt miss any of them. I wrote a service note for this problem. Below is a copy of part of it.

IMAGE PROBLEM – FADING/BLANK PAGES
HP COLOR LASERJET 1500/2500/2550/2820/2840

One cause is defective toner cartridges, but more it is more frequently caused by misalignment of the cartridge carousel assembly. If a cartridge is installed incorrectly a misalignment can occur.

I. TONER CARTRIDGE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY - Remove the toner cartridge and reinstall correctly. If the problem is not corrected, perform the realignment procedure below.
II. DIRTY SCANNER LENS – Blow out toner/dust from scanner mirrors. It may be necessary to remove the scanner to clean with air. Do not touch mirror or lenses.
III. CAROUSEL OUT OF ALIGNMENT – Perform realignment procedure.
1.) Remove all covers
2.) Release carousel brake (use small screwdriver)
3.) Line up yellow carousel slot (Y on cartridge and Y on carousel)
4.) Notice that there are 2 black gears on the main drive shaft and 2 white gears that interlock with the carousel gears.
5.) There are 2 pins on the each of the white drive gears.
6.) Rotate the carousel and line up the pins with the marks on each of the black gears. The mark should be in the middle of the 2 pins on each of the gears. See example to the left.
IV. BLACK PLASTIC BUSHING – Defective carousel gear - Replace (RB2-9808)
V. CAROUSEL ASSEMBLY – (RG5-6910)
VI. CAROUSEL DRIVE ASSEMBLY - (RG5-6911)

Thanks, that is good info. I replaced the three parts you listed, I guess it the generic cartridges, I've done everything you suggested and then some. If the customer won't supply me with OEM cartridges then I'm giving it back to him as is, I was not charging him anything so I have nothing to lose but the cost of the parts. Thanks for the quick response.

I always clean the laser optics first cause thats common problem no matter what the model and costs you nothing in parts.

About 60% of the time its out of alignment.
About 30% of the time its the dumb black bushing
I've never had to replace carousel and I think I've replaced the drive once.

You may have more than one thing going on, but good job on what you tried. Seriously good troubleshooting. I dont think you're a defective tech...lol...not this time anyway.

I pulled it apart again yesterday and the right side of the Carousel is not contacting the DV units, I realigned the cam drive gear on the back of the Carousel but something is still not allowing the Carousel Unit to come all the way forward on that side, I ran out of time so I'm going to give it one more shot on Saturday before I give it back, thanks.
