    Remote Restart JetDirect Laserjets?

    Hi there,

Anyone know if it's possible to send some kind of (SNMP? PJL? RCFG?) "reboot" command to a JetDirect server? I've noticed that when certain errors occur, the embedded web server doesn't respond, but telnet server does.

Some of my printers are 10 mins+ walk away, and some are an hour's drive away (and my users aren't about to do it). I know the option is there in Web JetAdmin, but I'm not allowed to use that here (long story).

Anyone know how to manually do it? Hope I'm being clear.

I haven't dealt with the newer JD cards but I would think a user could unplug the card and count to 10 to plug it back in.
If they won't respond electronically, a hard reboot would at least save you a trip to do the same thing.
    Just food for thought.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Hey, I appreciate the response. Not allowed to ask users to touch hardware (they're not supposed to at all) - and it's not the card, it's the actual printer that needs restarting.

I haven't dealt with the newer JD cards either - all mine are 610/615/620

I do now. Hmmm. Got a lot of them out there. Any problems with the 620s?

None that I've heard of. The 615 problem was a while ago. They were giving replacements but I think that's long over. You should do a search for the 615 on the HP site. I have the HP Service Note on this problem.
Here is the link to download it. The link will be valid for 200 downloads and 14 days.

The 615 card is so bad it can cause problems by just being in the machine even if you are not using it. When I have an HP that will do any number of stupid things, and has a 615 card, I upgrade them to a 620 and problem solved.
