    HP LaserJet 5000 Fuser Problems

How hard is it to change out the fuser unit on a HP LaserJet 5000? I asked the local copier place to fix it and they're giving me the run around about not being able to find the part. I can find them everywhere on the internet, I don't know what they're problem is. My question is, can I replace this unit or does it take a technician to do it? HELP!!!!

You can find the Service Manual on www.feedroller.com which should be able to help you a heap. Thats where I get my HP manuals, and if you are able to get the unit, then I don't think you should have too many problems. Have you got any experience in taking things apart and them working when you put them back together ? I haven't done one personally, but after you get the covers off, and follow the manual, you shouldn't run into too many problems.

If you know which end of a screwdriver hurts most when jammed into your eye then you can probably change the fuser by yourself. Most of them come with instructions in the box.

You can save some money by buying a rebuilt fuser assembly that requires you to send back the old one (the core) for a credit. If you still need a source go to http://www.printerworks.com they have diagrams posted, decent prices, and an 800 number for help if you get stuck. My company has been buying HP maint kits and fuser assemblies from them for a bunch of years and I am confident reccommending them.
