HP LJ-4100n Error 51.2-Can the element be repaired

    Question :
Does anybody know how to repair a bad heating element that gives error 51.2?
I know I can just replace the fuser unit, but I had a customer with a ripped sleeve ( also error 51.2 ) & I initially recommended the fuser and after quoting the customer a new fuser and also a remanufatured fuser, they decided not to do the work because they thought they could get another machine for the repair costs.
I then suggested I replace the sleeve only in order to get the work. My customer ok'd the sleeve since it would be a lot cheaper than purchasing a fuser. With all the craziness going on at work, I negleted to think about it also has a bad heating element.
Is there a resistor or another part that can be replaced besides the whole heationg element?

Unfortunately when you have a 50.1 or "fuzzy" looking prints on a known good sleeve you are normally looking at replacing the whole fuser, as it's about the most cost effective way to replace both the element and the sleeve.

If you find another work around..please let me know.

    That said.
Explain to your customer that with a new fuser and a couple pickup rollers they will essentially have a new machine...little else breaks down on these models. It is far better to spend the money to repair the machine and keep it out of a landfill than to replace it with (in many cases) a less reliable model that will just end up needing the same parts in about the same number of pages down the road.
Often running on a more expensive toner to boot.

Good catch China. That's exactly how my manual reads, too.

    50.2 fuser warm-up
    51.2 laser beam detect error

If you are lucky you may be able to disassemble and clean the mirrors, lenses, & beam detect sensor in the laser. Avoid any physical contact with the polygon mirror (blower brush only). The polygon mirror scratches very easily.

If you're not so lucky the laser will need replacement. If they wouldn't pay for a fuser, the laser is also a negative. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yes I think the OP meant 50.1 which genreally indicates a Heating element failure.

    Thanks for your replies.
Being that the Heat sleeve was ripped and the code was being shown, I automatically assumed it was fuser related. Thanks for pointing out I might have a laser code instead. I will need to double check the code again to make sure it was 51.2.
    Have agreat week.
