Does this machine have a HDD in the I/O port? If so, try removing it and see what happens.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

I agree with the Owl. Power Down > remove Hard Drive > power up. See if problem goes away.

You could try to initialize it:

    4050/4100/ CLR 4550/5100/8000/8100/8150 series
1.) While powering up printer, press and hold CANCEL JOB and SELECT.
2.) Hold until all 3 LED’s come on and release.
3.) Press < side of MENU.
4.) Press < side of VALUE.
    5.) Press SELECT.

If that doesn't fix the problem replace it.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Thanks it looks like the hard drive is bad. Do I need any system software or program to get the HD back up and running again?
