You never realize how cheap a professional is until after you let an amateur do it.... and
if this was an easy thing to do then everybody would be doing it! But it isn't and they are not!!
IMHO the odds are against you. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Generally what happens is the scanner motor fails causing the formatter to go. What we found in the early days of working on these is we would replace the scanner then have to replace the formatter as well. We tend just to fit both now when we have scanner failures. There is a very and I mean very slight chance that if you leave the new scanner on and update the firmware it might work( the firmware is updated on a regular basis available from HP.COM). If you replace the formatter the machine meter reading and serial number will no longer be there. There are prn files that you can re-input these with if HP will give them to you. These machines are a pile of cack and more hassle than they are worth. It may be cheaper in the long run to buy a replacement and rob the parts you need,or if you have one thats in warranty you can claim the formatter from that..
well I'm off to do calls...thanks for the input!...till tomorrow
