    HP 4250 Error Code 49.FF05

    This printer is at our local school district and I service their printers. This code keeps coming up. I have done the cold reset. It happens when the printer sits for a period of time. I do not suspect a PC based cause as it does not occur while they are printing. Just when the printer sits like when they go to lunch or when the come in to the office in the morning. They turn it off then on and it will work fine. There is no JetDirect Card, just a USB interface and 1 PC using the printer. Am I looking at formatter? or firmware? As most schools districts they have little money for major repairs so hoping this is something relatively simple.

    The NIC card is integrated into the formatter on the LJ4250, as you saw. The low cost option is to install a jetdirect 620 in one of the option ports, but it's not 100% guaranteed to solve your problem. Yes, ultimately it comes down to the formatter. =^..^=
    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    You can update the firmware on this device, and it will stop most 49 errors. The easiest way is to use WebJet Admin to do it, or the HP Firmware Downloader.

    Updated the firmware....code came back after the printer sat un-used for a few hours. Only happens after the printer goes into stand by. Installing a JetDirect is not really an option as they have to need or option of installing it on their network. This needs to be a stand alone printer via USB as they use it to print checks. Would installing the JetDirect Card without using it do any good?

    It would only help if you could network connect directly to the PC via crossover cable. If the PC is already on a network it probably does not have a second network connection available.

    If it has to remain a parallel printer adding the jetdirect card would not help you. You're back to the formatter again. =^..^=

    i HAVE WORKED ON THESE PRINTERS FOR 3 YEARS CODE 49 WHEN IN STANDBY IS THE FUSER GOING BAD
