Color LaserJet 4700 stops printing with memory errors

I've got a user with one of these that just stops printing every so often. It appears to happen mainly after the printer has gone into sleep mode and then wakes up. It will start up and begin its line position and show 'Initializing' on the display, but nothing ever happens. Powering off the device entirely seems to resolve the issue, but it's not really a solution is it?

    Here's the general breakdown:

Workstations: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 using model specific PostScript driver, XP Pro x86 also using model specific PostScript driver
Printing: Through Windows Server 2003 to default port IP

So far I've updated the firmware to the latest and greatest, reseated the formatter board, 256 MB DIMM, Flash card. Passes engine test without issue. After the firmware update, I did get an error code on the next two jobs that failed of 68 1101 and 68 8006. These were on the Event log and never displayed on the screen. I know a 68 is a memory error, but I'm hoping someone who's seen a few more of these boxes can tell me if the latter part of the codes can give me a better place to start looking.

    Thanks!

No information available about those specific errors. 68 is a storage error. Does the machine have a hard drive? Make sure you remove all accessories prior to testing. (Remove jetdirect or EIO cards, duplex unit, optional feeder trays, and etc...) Have you tried an NVRAM init? (It will erase printer information, make sure you print config page prior to trying this, if you can.)

The sm says the following with 0=on board NVRAM & 1=removable disk (flash or hard):

If a 68.0 error persists, perform an
    NVRAM initialization.

For 68.1 errors, use the HP Web
Jetadmin software to delete files from
the disk drive or flash card.

For 68.1 errors that persist, reinitialize
the hard disk or flash card.

    Formatter may be bad.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Hard drive was my first thought as the same kind of hang will happen on a Ricoh with a bad drive, but there is no hard drive in the machine. It has a 256 MB DIMM and 2MB flash card, I'm guessing for firmware uploads or custom fonts? Visually, there's nothing like a bad capacitor or any loose solder like the P3005's get, but formatter board may be a good place to look. I'll try removing the options and see if the error persists.
