    Laserjet 4250 error 54.1

Have a customer with a 4250 printer. She was getting a dark background on leading 3 inches of prints. It looked like a thousand defective cartridges I've seen, so I told her to replace the cartridge. It was OEM, by the way. She ordered a reconditioned one and it gave her an error 54.1, which means to pull the tape, but it's been pulled. So she ordered another of the same cartridge and it did the same thing. So she ordered an OEM cartridge, and the same thing. However, if she puts the original cartridge back in, it will work, but still with the background. Any ideas? Thank you.

There is a metal clip/spring which makes contact with the toner cartridge on the left side. It sometimes comes out of its slot or becomes malformed. See HP site link below:

It`s the contact in the magnetic roller that`s causing this problem.
Usually it`s from a recycle cartridge. It` is not installed properly.

Hi and welcome to the site but have you introduced yourself in the Newbie check in area, and this is a dead thread and over a year old since a reply
