HP Laserjet 1600 series color fading on left and right side of page...

Could this be caused by the transfer belt. Although the belt has some wear and tear it seems to be holding its own. Changed drums, cleaned laser lens....

    Clean the lens

Change your toner to an OEM. Most probably your using generic toner.

    Hi,

You need to clean the lenses, reflectors etc inside the laser unit.
To do this you must remove the backcover, sides, boards at the back..
Let me know if you need more info.
Its an old post still plenty of these machines out there & an easy enough fix.

    regards,

    Declan

Printmend probably has the right idea here, although I'd personally like to know a bit more about the total print count and the environment the machine is in before I'd give that advice.
Just for grins, you might want to take one of the drum units you initially removed from that machine apart and see what you find there first though. As long as that can be done without causing a mess around the machine anyway.
    Just my two cents.
