    LaserJet 5si MX Firmware

    Hi, Gang,

My brother just inherited a LaserJet 5si MX from a work associate.

While we dd get it working, I would like to keep it as current as possible.

I'm sure that the firmware for it is dated, but I can't seem to find it on the HP site.

Last I knew, it was available on the public site, but that may have changed.

I have a login for the dealer site, but I haven't used it in years, and it may be a challenge to find. (Seeing how I've been through about 4 PCs since then.)

I found the JetDirect update for the 622N, but I'm hesitant to flash it as the new version may very well be dependent on the level of machine firmware.

Any ideas as to where I can find it? If it's only on the dealer site, I'll go through the gyrations of re-establishing my account. If it is on the public (or other) site, a link would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Never mind, I think I found the answer.

You have to replace the printer formattter PCB in order to update.

I think I have a used formater, and fuser if you need one. But if the printer is working fine I don't think I'd mess with it.

Thanks for the offer, Mr. Bill.

I think we'll just leave it as is, as long as it prints OK.

It's just that it's going to be printing from a brand new Windoze 8 64 bit PC, and I'm trying to head off any potential "surprises".

Your surprise may be that there are no suitable drivers for Win8 64, and that you'll have to choose a semi-compatible PCL5e driver for a more recent HP monochrome printer.

I have no special love to Universal drivers. I've come to believe that "Universal" means: Works equally poorly on all models. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    Thanks, Blackcat.

Oddly enough, this one is supported using Windows update:

HP LaserJet Printers, MFPs, and All-in-Ones - Install the driver included in Windows 8 or Windows Update - c03470332 - HP Business Support Center

In this case, though, partial functionality would not be a major deal, as it is strictly for casual home usage.

I totally agree on the universal drivers, though. They universally suck.
