    Question Konica Minolta bizhub 501

I have a high volume customer who purchased a refurbished bizhub 500 from me a few years back. Now he wants to purchase a refurbished bizhub 501. Just looking for some feedback from any techs that are familiar with this model. The 500 hasn't given me too much trouble. What can I expect from the 501?
    Thanks!

    BZ501 - old technology now. BZ420 BZ500 wasn't a good model. BZ421 BZ501 no improvement either.

agreed, both those models are not the best, always problems with the toner auger. If you want an "old" good machine, try the 600/750, 601/751 series, they are awesome, will run for ever (with the proper occational pevent maint.) We use one in our shop. they are a bit bigger than the 501, and the power is 20amp, but if they can accomodate those, then I say get that one.

the 600/750/601/751 are pigs even if you set all the dip switchs. if it wasnt for that they were good machines. look for something within the last five years. 501' does not have much life left before they give it an end of life. the 421 and 361 which is the same had an end of life for 9/2017. you can get parts till they run out. then no more . better off trying a 423 . the 600.750 end of life was last march. so parts will get hartder to find.

Thanks guys for all the input.

I've sold the 423's but am wondering if that model would hold up well. Most of what this guy does on the bh500 is print from his computer. He receives print jobs via email. I'm looking for an additional copier to replace his Di470 which has finally died with 2.8 million on the meter.

What I like about the 500/501 is the 250k drum/dv life compared to the 120k on the 423. Anybody had a 423 handle that kind of volume? In the past it was not unusual for this account to run copy all day for 2 or 3 days straight. What he really needs is a high speed high volume copier but of course he's cheap and on a budget and is looking to me for an upgrade on the 470.

Question: I realize the drum/dv life on the bh454e/554e is also 120k, but what are your thoughts on one of those models for this account compared to the 423?

    Thanks again.

I had 501s with over 2,000,000 images running in a hospital. This was/is a good box with quality maintenance. Emujo

I must be one of the few that actually didn't mind the 500-501's, had lots in schools and they worked pretty good considering the use they got, regular maintainence was generally it. I I hate the 600 and up series, to many over toning-developer spilling issues. But a 554e series is what I would recommend now as they are already obsolete but parts are still readily available.

just to stick my .02 in, look for like a 552DS. so much less trouble if you HAVE to get a dinosaur.
otherwise a 554 is also a better option and cheap because they dont scan to gmail without doing a firmware dance.
