    If you want to be sure. swap the life chip from black with one of the color drums. if the lines come out the color you swapped with and no black lines then you can get yourself a black drum.

    Only way it would make sense to swap drums is if you have old style drums with small screw for chips. New style chips are riveted so people can't buy less expensive black drums and swap the chips for color, drums are identical except chip. I'm not saying the rivet stops some people. I would never do something like that

    Just disassemble your black drum and clean the grid + corona.

    Keep in mind you can clean the grid, charge, etc but if it is over life it can cause "any" of the developer units to pull developer. And if a color dev unit gets ruined you are looking at $400+ each to replace. Genuine black drums cost less than $100 so why even take the chance!
