Running #10 Envelopes on the C6500

Just to be up front, I'm not an end user and not a copy tech. I was just wondering if anyone knows of people running #10 Envelopes on the C6500. We've tried and always have the flap slightly being creased/folded to the front of the envelope. It's small yet unacceptable to our standards. When we checked out the machine at the trade show, they were pumping out envelopes in their demonstration. We've followed tips from Konica's head office and the envelopes they say are the only ones certified on the machine with no success. We've since given up on printing envelopes on the machine but figured I'd see if anyone using this site knew anything on this issue. I've received many usefull tips for running the machine on copytechnet.

Envelope printing is not part of the C6500 specs.

Nevertheless, I've heard some cases of successful printing with the envelopes opened (since the closed envelopes will trap air inside and cause that creasing).

Of course you should check the envelopes at the end of the printing, since it's not guaranteed that all of them will come out ok - some of them will probably come out wrinkled.

It all depends also on the quality of the envelopes.

Once again, you must be aware that the C6500 was not made for envelope printing, so your mileage may vary.

    Good luck!

PS: What I've written above was from things I've remembered from the top of my head, since it's been a while since I last serviced one of those. If envelope printing is indeed part of the machine specifications, my apologies. But some of my former customers complained of the same thing and many simply gave up on it. Check your manual to see what you can find on envelope printing.

Agreed. Envelopes are not spec'd on the C6500 and envelopes are not listed on the approved media guide for the C6500. You can try changing settings as some other techs will suggest, but you're only shooting yourself in the foot, you still will not have acceptable success.

Here in Toronto many Users run envelopes with varied levels of success.
SupremeX #10s run very well with a less than 2% spoilage on average.
The GOLDEN RULE here is to test them BEFORE you ofer them as a product.
Run them FACE UP, specify the output tray and set it for plain 81-105GSM. We have had issues where depending on what Mill the envelopes are produced in as far as the creasing.
They are NOT officialy supported and it is up to the customer if they feel the extra work is worth the final product.
VERY VERY IMPORTANT is to purchase a fuser that will be used for envelopes ONLY. they will cause marks and lines in no time flat.
You will also need a Service tech to reduce the sensitivity of the double feed sensore from the large capacity trays.
run them from the bypass or LCT trays ONLY.

In a nutshell: Hit and miss, try it and see what you think. Being able to offer short run FULL COLOUR envelopes is a bonus to some shops, a burden to others. Price the final product accordingly, remember you are saving your customer money by not requiring a minimum quantity in the hundreds.

I also have several machines running envelopes with no problems.

The SSD does state that envelopes are not supported, however it also has information on how to use them.

CAUSE: The multi-feed protection mode may cause a jamming issue when attempting to feed envelopes.

SOLUTION: It is possible to disable the multi-feed detection for the PF by setting DIPSW 19-4 to 1. Please be advised that disabling the multi-feed detection mode may cause issues when feeding normal paper and a double-feed occurs.

Our sales department has information to say that envelopes are supported, while service says otherwise.

In Europe, they have a kit to go into the PF-601 to assist with the envelopes.

That "kit" is just a second fuser and instructions on how to swap them out. Our Trays come standard with the little feet for smaller sizes.
    Check you Bombaci Bulletins.

Actually, the kit from Europe does go into the paper tray.
This one had no Bombaci Bulletin, but he was made aware of it.
PDF is on a B+W machine, but it should also fit in the colour.
How are things there after April 1 on Courtneypark Dr?

Cannot get rid of envelope trailing edge flap creasing on C6500

I have been trying (on 2 separate C6500's w/ PF601's - 1 with an IC-303 and basic booklet FS, the other with a 305 and an SD) to print/copy #10 envelopes, and have gotten good, bad, and ugly results depending on which envelopes I try (and I've tried a lot!); but even the best results cannot get rid of that trailing edge flap crease!!! I have tried the recommended SupremeX 445FSC, tried all weights, with, or without air (strong or weak), slow or fast, and STILL cannot get rid of that annoying crease in the flap!

I am at my wits' end, and have two unhappy customers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
