Re: C 353 SMB scan problem

First make sure your network settings on the copier are correct. Proper gateway address, dns server address, and domain if need.

    1. Create a new folder in the C drive called "scans". Right click the folder and select "properties". Click sharing tab and select "Share.." Add the built in user "everyone". change permissions to Read/write then click "Share". Then go to the "Security" tab and click once on the user "everyone" to verify that it has full control. If not the set full control for this user account. Then you can right click your folder and select send to desktop to create a shortcut for easy access.

    2. Obtain the hostname, username and password for the username. Open up a command prompt and type the command "set". You will see a lot of information. For hostname look for COMPUTERNAME=. For the username look for USERNAME=. The password you must either know it or the actual person that logs in must give it to you. This you must hope they give you the correct password. If there is no password I would create one for this user because sometimes these KM machines don't like blank passwords. Sometimes it is a good option to create another user account (administrator) on the computer and give it a password. You can then use this account later on when setting up the one touch. This extra account is only used for the purpose of giving the copier permission to write a file to the folder.

    3. Get the IP address of the copier and enter it into the address bar of a web browser. Then go to Store address tab or scan tab whatever it is called on this model. Register a new SMB location.
    a. Give it a name
    b. Enter the host address you got from step 2. This will work as long as "DNS" settings is configured properly on the copier. Another alternative is to use the IP address of the windows 7 computer instead. Using the IP address is not a good idea unless the IP address is static and will never change.
    c. For the folder path simply type in the word "scans" without the quotes.
    d. Enter the username from step 2
    e. Enter the password for the same username.
    f. click ok

    4. Test your scan. If an error occurs look in the job log and look at the details of the error. "Server connection error" mean that your hostname is wrong or it cannot resolve the hostname due to DNS or there is a firewall issue somewhere. Try the IP address to eliminate a dns issue. If you get a "Folder not specified" error then it means you successfully connected to the host but it can't find the folder. Check for any error in folder naming. If you get a "Login" error then it means it found the folder on the host but does not have permission to write a file to it. Double check your permissions and make sure that the username and password is correct. Don't take anyone's word that the password is correct because it will cause you headaches.

Some other possible things to check if it just won't work even if everything is setup correctly. Check in the advanced sharing settings within network and sharing center. Make sure File and Printer sharing is on and that Public folder sharing is on. In some cases you may need to set 128bit encryption to 40/56 bit encryption though I rarely have to set this. In one situation in a domain environment I had to change on the copier in the smb settings NTML V1 to NTML V1/V2 but this is rare to have to do.

Just to add a little additional info, you mat spend hours spinning your wheels trying to set the SMB scans up only to discover that SMB scanning is turned off by default on Window 7. Check with the local admin to ensure that file and print sharing is allowed before you go much further. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

Also check the network setting and see if it is work or home. If it is public then smb is automatically disabled.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!
