Re: C224e/C284e/C364e/C454e/C545e cyan dev unit problems

You are not the only one having this now.

Had it a few times. The customer complaints are for cyan dev crushed onto edges of colour prints.

This is a machine i am working on now, it is on its third cyan dev unit AND cyan drum.

Note, for some reason some 4 series machines, NOT all have cyan TCR set to +1. This machine was, I have now restored back to 0 like the rest.

I have checked the hopper and it is fine.

Today it has received a new transfer kit, vacuum out and yet another new cyan dev unit and drum. The machine is a c554 and has gone much of its life trouble free before this started.

Note the picture of the dev unit is the new one - I always manually agitate them to sort out handling issues such as this.

Very first page out, brand new drum and dev and belt and vacuumed mahine.

Cyan charge grid contaminated already. Tell me again how this is the hopper when the TCR level is perfect?

blew off the grid, run 20 more pages seems clean for NOW and printing without the faded edge. Lets see how long it lasts this time.

TCR levels when leaving machine now with Cyan set to 0 like the rest.

Note, i have just run 10x 255 gradation 4 colour a3 test pages, just a habbit of mine that seems to stop new belts tearing at the blade.

    Grid still clean.

I'm not a photocopier technician. I know about consumables, toners, drums, developer, etc.

It happens to rebuild a few bizhub C451 drums (they include the developer section). I bought OEM developer powder for C6500, but i realized it was not original (just imitation!). I noticed that the not OEM developer powder formed these buildups much more easily than the OEM developer. And also in the same place, a few cm from one end.
With no agitation and with the powder at one end (I tested on purpose using a drill) the OEM developer powder didn't develop any buildup at all.
Just a thought. I suspect bad developer powder.

I'm reading this thread for a long time. I would suggest for testing to empty the new developer unit, and fill with a new developer powder even from another model (e.g. the C220, or even the C6500).

Thank you EarthKmTech for your find. Interesting it is. Just out of curiosity. When did you update the version up firmware on this particular machine? Plus all the firmwares afterwards? ( if it wasn't on )

Have you swapped the HV board EarthKmTech?
Surely you can't have that many faulty dev units.

Re: C224e/C284e/C364e/C454e/C545e cyan dev unit problems

In the last few weeks cyan dev units have been failing all over the place, not just this machine.

I have NFI what is going on or what the cause is, one machine that started doing it was a brand new C224e, thats the only e series I have seen it on the others are non e's that have practically gone life without this issue, till I saw this post then it started happening to me. Always cyan without fail.

Note, this is the first one I have attended to personally, the rest have been co-workers. The firmware on this C554 is not the latest, from memory it was was 1 step back from the latest. The update to that level was done a long time ago and this issue has only started in the last couple months.

I will report back on its progress and what I do next. I goto this customer once every few weeks as they have a lot of machines. This like the other ones affected do 4 x as much colour as black printing.

The only other thing is non gen toners? As i found the toner shutters are not engaged properly, thus starving the devs of toner.

    genuine toner in use here.

I have advised against the replacement of boards till hotfuser comes up with a solution to this problem. Ordinarily I would of replaced the HV board and may well have to if this comes back again. But I have a feeling its the same issue which wont be fixed even replacing half the machine as he did. I have been watching this post intently. It is clear now why the cyan dev unit is the one that is always on back order.
