KM-3050 document feeder issue

We have a KM-3050 with a DP-700 that has a very strange problem. Copying from the glass is fine, but when you put an original in the document feeder the display says "Please wait" at the top and "Adjusting Scanner" in small print at the bottom. This is a new setup so we tried to just install a new document feeder and trouble shoot the first one later, but the machine has the same issue with the new document feeder. I searched both the service manual and the user guide for this message and was unsuccessful. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I've seen something like this.

My FalconIII only did this when copying duplex. It turned out that the lower cable from the DF was poorly connected at the back of the machine.

Since you've probably already checked that a couple times, I think I would start re-seating connectors on the Main PWB (especially YC17). Have you run a U906 reset yet?

Also I would make sure that the scanner can move freely to the slit glass (no obstructions).

Now I'm curious. Let me know what you find.

It turns out there was a missing bracket on the right DF hinge that was supposed to actuate a PI. Once we found the bracket and screwed it back on, no problems.
