    RF Ideas card reader intstallation

    Hello all

Is there a handy dandy video or take my hand step by step setup for one of these RF Ideas card readers. I have it installed on the copier, but I don't know how to activate or program or anything. I can't find anything on Copystars site nothing on youtube, so I must be missing something.

Thanks in advance for the help.

you may need to change a Bit in the configuration. there is some app by PcProx i used to "log into" the reader and i had to change a bit depending on what cards they used.
the card list it works on is here https://www.rfideas.com/pcprox-supported-card-types
make sure their card is on the list.

tech support was pretty helpful, call them Toll-free: (866) 439-4884

wish i could be more help but i only had to do it twice and had step by step in an email i cannot for the life of me find.

It has been a while since I have set one up, but it is more than adding the cfg file to the copier. Did you setup the server [computer] that the RFid is authenticating against? The copier needs a server or computer in the network to verify the card against as it is not done on the copier but a server/computer that is hosting the credentials of the cards. The Copystar website does have a setup manual for this or at least it did that was helpful for us. Our biggest problem in setting this up on a state network was having the proper permissions and navigating across several network segments to get to the server they wanted to use as the credentials host and then having that host transverse back to the machine. Time outs and what was the ultimate problem-the admin credentials they were using were not valid on all the network segments we had to transverse so were getting blocked. If you are working within one network segment and one domain it should be much easier. I think I still have the setup guide hanging around somewhere if you need it. The other problem you face is are you issuing new cards programed for the unit or are they trying to use existing employee cards that you need to read and get the info into the database?

You have to license the card reader to the MFP.

Okay just for a update. The machine was installed friday and the card reader works like a champ Big Thanks!!

now for a little issue after the user has logged in and try to print from a thumb drive it will not print the job. The copier sees the drive and all the files(this is all second hand, but I will be the follow up guy and was looking for any info) What im wondering is, is there something that needs to be turned on in the user accounting

You have still not mentioned just what software you are using...unless I missed it. (Been known to happen.)

Card readers by themselves are useless. They need an application to talk to.

Some apps disable USB printing by setting the service modes on the copier.. Let's face it...what good is controlling printing from PCs and servers, but allowing people to bypass all that and print from a thumb drive?
