Therefore the crossover cable to laptop and use of KM Net Viewer!

PS--we are talking about copying system settings and address book....correct?
Yep! You only need a USB flash drive and the software loaded on a PC or laptop. You can find the Setup tool on KDAConnect under Technical Resources > Print Utilities -> Any current model. It allows you to convert any U917 exported data to another model. The batch process feature allows you to convert a folder of files where you could only convert one at a time with the previous version.

Address book, account codes, & one touch keys can be converted in the setup tool. Things like progams can't be converted.
Unless you're using a laptop running 98 or XP, you don't need a crossover cable.
    Hope that helps !

That makes it easier on installation day when the new machine is delivered with the address book done. Getting the network status prints when I get the 917 info gives me what I need to load network settings ahead of time as well. The new machine usually works fine after the swap giving me time to just go around and update drivers.

If I don't get advance notice, I've used KMNet Viewer to do the move.
setup tool sucks big time! KM Net Viewer will do the job.

That's what everybody keeps telling me, yet when I get a couple days notice from sales I can make a 2 minute stop at the customers office and get what I need from the old machine. I easily convert it and move it to the new machine in the shop and within a minute of moving the old machine out the new machine is in place and fully functional.

KM Net Viewer is great and I do use it for on site transfers, but it takes a little while to get it done on site.

Are you using v3? If you know it "inside out," then how could it be counterintuitive? If it's not working, it seems the problem is something other than the intuitiveness of the program.
