Kyocera FS-3640MFP continual adding toner message

I have a Kyocera FS-3640MFP with a continual "adding toner" message, I removed the right cover and everything appears to be in place all the motors and gears seem to be turning. To rule out a maintenance kit, I took the developer unit and drum unit and swapped them into a 3540MFP and they work ( a little over-toned),however, no adding toner message. I took the FS-3540mfp drum and developing units and placed them into the FS-3640mfp and the continual "adding toner" message is on the LCD screen. The firmware I believe is current 0514 and no error massages. I did not see any tech bulletins. Any ideas?

I brought it back to the shop and watched it for about 30 min stuck in that "adding toner" cycle. It basically fills the toner waste bottle while in the process. I'm thinking possibly main board issue.

Is the drum coated in toner ? That ususally indicates some type of high voltage arcing. I was going to suggest looking at U130, but it doesn't look like it has that maintenance item.
    Hope that helps !

The drum looks good, I turn off the mfp, pull out the drum unit and it looks good, not covered in toner. The drum only has 24k on it. I tried a drum and developer refresh to no avail, No 130.

Don't know if this is what you have but it may help QA B379-2MC-0003. if you have access to the kda service portal.

My company has access to KDAconnect and can't find that bulletin under the FS-3640MFP. What does it pertain to?

    Measure to prevent the “toner
    low” display immediately after
    the toner container installation
The “Toner low” message may display immediately after the toner container is
installed. As a preventative measure, the toner low detection method is changed
so it will be detected according to the level of remaining toner in the container.
Originally, the “Toner low” message displays based on the toner low count
detected periodically. In the case that the remaining toner level in the container is
high, the count number before detecting the toner low condition will be increased to
stabilize the judgment on the toner low detection.
    this is from the bulletin

What measure is taken to change the toner level detection? It talks about it in your post, however, it does not explain how to change the toner level detection.

Sorry I should have said it is a firmware update to correct the issue

NP, I believe it has the latest firmware 0514. I tried a main board swap, however, the EPROM is soldered on the board and I get 180 error code.
