    KM5035 with black copies

yes seen it many times too. a couple weeks ago customer called for intermittent black copies and I cleaned the main charge corona to get them going.
called back for solid black copies and I just replaced brand new drum unit and main charge corona, still solid black copies and I don't see any image underneath like you can sometimes see with a bad mc corona.
customer only uses oem toner and it looks as if all the contact springs are in place.
anything else obvious or is the laser next in line?

Check for arc marks on the primary charge contact and on the rear frame contact. Especially on the Stratos series, you'd find blackening of the charge contact. That's why changing the primary helps for a while. One of the contacts is new, but the one on the rear frame is still burned.

Use a knife blade or steel wool to clean burn marks off of the metal, and reform the contacts. I've never had one bad enough to have to replace the rear frame contact, but I imagine it would be pretty unpleasant to do. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Not a coil spring. It's a leaf spring contact. =^..^=

Here is an old unit with the drum removed, so I take it that it is not those 2 spring loaded pins on the rear frame. If possible can you point to it in the picture? Thanks

That looks so much better right side up. And yes, it's a spring loaded pin, not a leaf spring on this model. Also check the drum ground and drum drive coupler. =^..^=

Thanks I figured that was it, it doesn't look burnt but I can still rough it up a little and see.
also I noticed on this picture where I circled looks charred but I think that just contacts the frame of the drum sep claw bracket IMG_3586.JPG
