    firmware KM-4050

Please help me with upgrading firmware using a usb memory stick
I can't seem to get it right!!!
It might have something to do with the FAT32
I have been looking for software to format using FAT16
I am not finding a solution???
Please help me STEP BY STEP.

Reason for upgrade - I can't scan to folder on VISTA (xp works fine)
    and the slow display issue.

I have got the firmware. and the service manual says I can use a CF or USB.

    Thanks.

If the usb stick has been formated in FAT32 or NTFS it should still be ok, it is only the older Kyocera's that the card had to be formated in FAT.
Make sure you have exstracted all the files from the firmware folder and copy them onto the root of the USB stick and pop it into the copier it should be as easy as that..........Good Luck

Ummmm, have you tried a different USB stick? or mabie try a CF card which should be faster than a USB as the interface is faster.

Sorry for being vague but i have lost count on how many firmware upgrades i have done on these machines and have not had the problem you are discribing.....

as long as you have all the files on the root of the stick and not in a folder which you say you have, i can't see that you are doing anything wrong.
You could try cleaning/ changing the dimms in the ops and main pcb, but to be honest im just guessing now as this is not a problem i have had before. I have checked the UK kyocera tech web and there is nothing there.
I'll ask some of my colleagues tomorrow for more ideas, but hopfully someone will post the answer on this site soon

Sorry i don't think ive been much help.

Never tried the 4 or 8gig. We only use the 1g for upgrades. I know the earlier machines had an issue if you used a cf over 64mb. Maybe the same issue with the USB.

ok I got myself a new CF card today 256mb - I hope it's compatable - not too big???
I see it formats at FAT (FAT16) and not FAT32.
I also made the volume name "KYOCERA"
copy and paste all the files into the root dir.
I will try this in the morning... and let you know...

Still bugs me about the usb - maybe 4gig or 8gig is too big???

I've always had good luck with CF cards. I use the smallest possible card that will hold all the files. I have 32MB, 128MB, & 256MB.

And just format the card on the copier. No difficult choices, just Yes or No.

Place the firmware files in the root directory (not in any of the folders).

Turn OFF the copier, insert the CF card, Turn ON copier, then just let it do it's thing. Note: Do not turn the copier OFF until you see a 'Completed' screen. If you get anxious and turn it off too soon one of your DIMMs will be corrupted, and probably have to be replaced.

It usually takes ~15 minutes to do the complete firmware upgrade. If it is not complete within 30 minutes, it is not going to finish and one of your DIMMs is corrupt. Pay attention to the firmware piece that stalls or registers a 'failed' message. =^..^=
    RTFM
