Try to log in to your gmail account on-site. Maybe you have a double security setup for entering the account. For example, if gmail is sending a code to a mobile phone to enter the account. In that case, you will not be able to scan through the account that is set.

If the rest of the MFD communications work okay.
You might like to test for out of date security certificate on the MFD?
Dump the certificate and reinstall with a new one.

Being Wi-Fi comms check that no one else is using roaming devices with a fixed/alloc IP address which might be getting a conflict IP with the MFD. Ie phone laptop...
Such be the case move the fixed IP address of the MFD up out of range of any DHCP
allocation.
What is the comms speed of the network. I'm thinking in terms of device handshake and throttle back or retries before dropping out.
