    5002i dark gray background

I suspect that the customer had inserted the waste toner Bottle Into the toner bottle area. Now the copies are having dark gray background. It really looks like contaminated developer. My question is can I suck out the developer and have the machine install new toner?

    Done:
    Updated firmware
Performed developer and drum refresh and Laser cleaning and calibration
    72k meter
    U089 shows background issue

If it's under warranty, why don't you just change the DV and warranty it? Your U089 will support the problem.

I would run a bunch of sky shots, to see if you can get that waste toner out. I do not think these machines are mono component. Or just warranty it.

    thanks for the feedback.

i ordered the developer and went back to replace it. the copies were clear and cherry, no background no grayish bad quality. i think the customer purged out all the bad toner themselves over the weekend by making tons of copies.

anyway, i left it as is, i think it'll be ok.

i've been real intentional and clear about demonstrating toner and waste bottle procedures, but its a real problem when there a multiple users who don't know what to do. it's a nurses station so... its tuff when got new people.

like to hear what you all do. do you charge for stuff like this when they are under maintenance contract?

On all our devices of this style, we put an instruction label on the top lip of the toner door so it's visible whenever the front cover is open.

This way, nobody can claim ignorance when they screw things up, and thanks to this, we get very little push-back when the we bill them full time/travel/parts for the pleasure of the svc call.

We do not bill our customers for stupidity. That is a fine line.
