    KM-4050 new drum with background

I scratched the drum with only 70,000 pages on it so I ordered a new maintenance kit and replaced only the drum and charger.

The drum doesn't seem to be cleaning and I'm wondering if it's because I was unable to clear the drum count and if that could be keeping the charge too high.

My question is how do you clear the drum count and start it over and what else could be causing too high of a charge on the drum.

Since it's a new drum and blade I'm assuming the blade is doing its job.

When copying I can lighten the exposure and get the back grounding and double Imaging to go away. But the print jobs don't have that option.

Any help will be most appreciated.

When changing the drum on these, you MUST power the machine down prior to repalcement or the count will not clear.
If you phrase your inquiry properly, you will get the answers you seek...

Good Luck ... You'll need it! HAHAHA!

    Thank you "The_Murph"

Am I out of luck or will it reset on power down and reset?

Does this machine adjust the voltage with the age of the drum? Or could it be something as simple a a drum blade that isn't working properly. This machine is 60 miles away and we are dealing with awful road conditions so I'd love to wrap this up when I get there... any suggestions are appreciated.

I would check to see if the charge unit is seated properly

This is really common on the FalconIII's. It's very easy to install the primary charger so that it's not close enough at the front of the drum. The additional spacing will give you dark copies. I've done it to myself a couple times. It's also a good idea to put a little oil on the drum drive coupler (on the rear of the drum unit-shaft). As the drum gets older the coupler will seize in one position. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

You can also use a Falcon II main charge on these machines if you have one available. They usually slide right in and seat properly without any fuss or background. No codes get thrown and you also eliminate the issue of the automatic charge cleaner getting stuck in the process of cleaning the wire.

I'm headed back out with the original charging ass'y. What you're describing makes sense in that the charger is too far from the drum on the front since the problem is worst at the front and gets better by about midway.

Is there any way to adjust that? it appears that the little "spacer wheels" ride the drum and determine that spacing.

As always, thank you for your input and any help is much appreciated.

Not adjusting ... re-seating. That little spacer wheel isn't touching the drum at the front and it should. You'll notice the the shoulder retaining screw is in a slot, and that screw should be in the far end of the slot.

When inserting the main charge unit there is a "T" shaped feature on the charge unit that fits in a "T" shaped track in the drum unit. did I explain that right? =^..^=

Hopefully you used the charger that came with the drum unit. They are calibrated with the spacer wheels of different colors. You should keep the correct spacers with the drum unit when you replace the main charge.
If you did keep them together, go with Blackcat's suggestion.
    Hope that helps !

Thank you everyone for the assist on this problem.

I tried many times and simply could not get the new charger to set down properly on the front end. It was obvious in looking at the slotted screw that it wasn't where it needed to be. As soon as I installed the old charger it set down properly and the copies looked great. That's where I left it. I appreciate the help.
