    Kyocera 4501i dark background

    charge_1.jpg

I'm just a part time kyo tech so I hope someone seem this before.

Looks like drum/ charge issue but no change whatsoever after replacing the dk6306 unit.

I did vacuum out machine and cleaned contacts. Oem toner, current firmware. Only 230k on the machine

I'm thinking next step high voltage board, any help appreciated.

    Thanks

It could be high voltage, but sometimes doing a reset by u906 gets it back.

What happens if you re-install the old drum? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Did it look like this prior to DK change? We once had a problem when a tech did a 600k pm and did not fully seat the wire that connected into the transfer belt unit and his copies looked just like this. He went back re seated the connector and all the copies/prints looked good.

I don't know, I didn't do that, what are you thinking

I did put in the old charger back in for testing, which made no difference

Yes same symptoms before and after, I surely reseated the drum connecter

Only has a secondary t belt, which wasn't touched

I'm thinking that you've got a poor drum ground. =^..^=

If you could expand, is the drum ground a replaceable part?
I did clean the area behind the drum (spings and such), and to clarify the background existed before and after the drum replacement

    Re: Kyocera 4501i dark background

On organic photoconductors typically there is a bare section of aluminum that you can meter to frame ground. Anything more than 0 ohms is too much. Sometimes when you rotate the drum drive you can watch the resistance vary. Bare metal contact is OK, but conductive grease improves the connection.

It's a little more difficult to check the drum ground on amorphous silicon drums, since the glass-like coating covers the entire surface. There are no bare areas of the aluminum core. But you can check the brass or copper contact inside the drum cap that makes contact with the drum shaft. A little black conductive grease helps here.

I've found drum ground contacts making a weak physical connection, deformed, or entirely missing. On a Canon drum I pried off the old rear drum cap with ground contact, and glued it to the new drum, which was charred because of weak contact.

The drum grounds through the drum shaft to the frame ground. Usually there is a copper contact somewhere in the rear drum drive to make the connection to the frame, but that resistance is very easy to check with the drum removed. A little black conductive grease is good here too.

The fact that you can see the Kyocera logo repeating as a negative confirms that it could be residual charge left in the drum (drum ground issue).

Is there any chance this could be wrong toner? =^..^=
