restictive printing with microsoft surface pro

Hi all, has anybody tried to set up restrictive printing for users on TA5501i using surface pros. We have drivers loaded on the server and already set up to promp the user for a pin code when they pull down the driver and try to print. It works fine for anybody using desktop pc's but with the Surface pro the customer is prompted for a pin to associate with their job but when it goes to the machine it beeps twice and the job is deleted as if it is an unauthenticated job. The Surface pros are using windows 10 as are some of the pc's that are working. I couldn't see a driver for the Surface pro as I was thinking maybe it needs a specific driver. Has anybody seen this or got any ideas, Thanks.

Try loading the driver locally. That will tell you where your issue resides.

If a local driver works, my guess would be that they have a separate group policy in place for the surface laptops and that when it’s adding the printer from the server, a deny is somewhere in there and it’s just seamlessly grabbing the driver from the internet on the fly.

    I’ve seen this exact scenario.

I just tried to load the drivers localy on to the Surface Pro and it worked fine. I will need to have a chat with the network admin. Thanks again for your help.

You could try going into the driver properties on the Surface machines and on the "Advanced" tab check "print directly to printer".

Yes. It has worked for me before to get access codes passed to the copier but I haven't had to do it in a while now.
