new install. Machine recieved 40 faxes and no longer recognizes fax is installed. No 600 modes and device info page says NOT INSTALLED. The circuit seems pretty simple, fax modem, SSD fax "pony board" and main pwb.
Obviously, I installed a new max modem without success and obviously I could just order another SSD board and main PCB, which I may do. But not being a parts thrower, thought i would throw this out there in case someone
has "seen this before".......
Before changing boards, try U021 and U002. After that, upgrade firmware to the latest.
Make sure that the interface has not been blocked by checking device security in Command Center RX; sometimes IT blocks these for "security" reasons, not really knowing what they are.
also a fax simulator and a small brother fax to send and receive from will determine if it's the machine or a line issue
Tried all suggestions in all above posts. The copier just doesn't know it even has a fax modem installed. I see no other option than to order a main board.
Will update when solved.

That's unusual. I've replaced 3 or 4 fax options over the years for flakey operation or like you say, just disappearing. But never a main board. Thanks for posting back. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I had a fax stop working, but on a 306ci. it turned out to be the FFC that connects the main board to the expansion bay wasn't seated fully in the connector. this cable is the same across most of the MFP models in circulation today, and is worthwhile to check before ordering part$. the fax boards themselves are practically bulletproof... as far as I've seen; and lightning is an issue in my area.
Yep. I started at the fax board and worked my way backwards. Definately main board.
