have CS6002 that makes a grumbling noise when ever it comes out of sleep mode of fired up in morning. unit has current firmware, new style bridge unit in the pf unit and fuser replaced as well as the exit unit. have checked the bulletins and have found no other info. anyone had this or an idea on it??

Run the container mix motor in u030 and listen for the noise. We had a noise relating to toner and I think it turned out to be the cartridge itself. The customer reported it as occurring 1st thing in the morning.Originally Posted by itchyfinger@att.net
It certainly could be the vibrator motor related to toner add, but most of my customers are hearing the rumbling of the continuous rotation of the fuser. New or old fuser, it has a sound continuously when not asleep.
Silent mode will quiet it down, but adds warmup time to every print or copy. In most cases I pitch Silent Mode as the best option. Some say yes, some say no. =^..^=

Since these separate the fusing rollers automatically, any idea what is the point of running the fuser motor continuously ? All it seems to do is cause noise issues. I have a fuser drive unit on order, but it's backordered for a couple of weeks.
Maybe... since heat rises it more evenly distributes the fuser heat to the entire roller, for the quickest possible first copy speed?
Personally, for longevity I believe they should all be in Silent Mode. The 25 to 30 second warm up is hardly noticeable and reduces the energy usage considerably. Could you really be in that big a hurry that 30 seconds matters? It takes longer than that to walk over to the MFP. =^..^=

ahhh you don't deal with alot of US Gov't workers huh?
I know in the old days you needed to keep the hot roller somewhat warm... FPO/Flat spotting.
most machines now ( crap IMHO ) like the "film/soft" hot roller... so 20-30secs? the fat ummmm female 10' from it should make it there by LPO!

Its purpose is definitely correlated to heat distribution.
If you turn on silent mode and wait a variable amount of time between jobs, you will notice a variable initial print speed. The longer the time between jobs, the longer the initial print takes. There even is a longer delay than normal between concurrent jobs. It's not very noticeable but probably in the range of 1-3 seconds.
They must have changed silent mode on the newer machines. The Alphard 1 was the last ones I tried it on, and they were pretty much unusable.
Silent Mode is simply Sleep Mode keeping the panel operational. The panel accepts commands but actual warmup begins at press of Start. =^..^=
