KM5050 jams halfway out of fuser

Admittedly I don’t see these very often, and the ones I had ran so well I didn’t encounter many problems.
that being said I have one with just over a million copies that started jamming with the paper halfway out of the fuser, in other words the lead edge of the paper is about 4 inches out of the top of the fuser.

I suspect it is in the process of turning the paper to go into the finisher so I have disconnected the finisher and have the pages exiting into the copier now and it does not jam this way.

Is there something in that area above the fuser that goes bad to cause jams before exiting to the finisher?

Of course this is intermittent so I am not seeing an obviously broken part as of now.

Thanks for any words of wisdom.

A jam code would be really helpful. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

If you look at the paper exit assembly just above the fuser I suspect you will see a large amount of a "brown substance" [paper dust] adhering to the swing gates and other surfaces. After a while it becomes thick enough that the paper cannot smoothly pass through and causes random jams sometimes and continuous jams at other times. You could remove the assembly and thoroughly clean it, but this will only last for a few months. The real solutions is to replace the entire assembly. Just retired a 5050 a couple of months ago that had 3.2 mil on the clock and we had replaced this assembly three times for this problem, it was the only fail-safe resolution as the vaporized paper dust gets into everything, the guides, the swing gates, the bushings. Hope this helps.

There's a post on the upper door that breaks so it doesn't assist the exit gate enough. Usually the front one. If I recall one orientation will work, one won't. (portrait, landscape)

You might check that the finisher mates at the right height and doesn't tend to pull the left door open. You'll see J85 & J87 codes in this situation.

    thanks I ordered it today.

by chance did you ever notice it making an “electrical” noise or chattering when it failed?
I didn’t hear it but that was how the customer described it.

An electrical noise-no, chattering on one occasion but very, very briefly.
